Background:

Northbourne School was opened in January 1962. It is of very modern design with nine bright and attractive classrooms, a most unusual triangular hall, a reference library, a headteacher's room, secretary's office, medical bay, staffroom and kitchen. There are also two terrapin classrooms, which were new in 1993. A permanent classroom and special needs/music room and an ICT resource room were completed in 1998, followed by another permanent classroom in 2000. Two hard playgrounds and a large playing field are situated at the rear of the school, as well as a small wooded area. There is a fitness trail and play equipment adjacent to the junior playground and extensive play equipment in the infant playground. There is a wide range of extra-curricular activities outside the normal school day. These activities include netball, swimming, football, music, hockey, short tennis, rugby, games, chess, ICT and craft clubs after-school and rehearsals for musical events and school plays. The school aims to provide a happy, secure and well managed learning environment where Christian values are upheld and in which children are encouraged to strive for excellence and each individual's potential is realised.
