Background:
This purpose-built comprehensive opened in 1971 and occupies a 70 acre campus in a rural setting on the edge of the village of Bloxham. It serves a catchment area of largely rural communities to the north, west and south of Banbury, four miles away. The 'extensive' grounds contain playing fields, a sports hall, tennis/netball courts, a heated outdoor swimming pool and a working livestock farm. Pupils are regularly involved in sports fixtures at district, county and regional level. Music is represented in orchestras, ensembles and choirs. Residential trips include outdoor pursuits visits, language exchanges and concert tours. It is a school where 'a strong sense of purpose and community supports an environment in which all students can feel comfortable and can develop the range of personal, social and academic skills to equip them for their lives beyond school'. The school is over-subscribed, with around 1.5 applications for every available place.
