Background:

Since its establishment in 1870, Kingham Primary has been 'dedicated to the provision of first class education'. The youngest children have their own early years' playground in addition to the sports fields, adventure playground and nature reserve that are enjoyed by all pupils. The school is 'well equipped' with computers, musical instruments and other learning materials needed to 'prepare each pupil for secondary school life in the diverse world of the 21st century'. The staff at Kingham Primary believe that 'the curriculum extends beyond the classroom and includes the after school activities and how we behave as a community'. In this vein, children are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities such as the French club. Sports enthusiasts can pick from netball, athletics, rounders and football and, for the more musically inclined pupils, tuition is available in clarinet, flute, cello and violin. Dance is also offered. Since it was formed in 1985, the support given by the the Kingham Primary School Association 'illustrates the importance of the school within the community' and 'the enthusiasm and loyalty, shown by both parents and friends, upholds the school's traditions and promotes its continuing success'. The association raises funds for basic equipment and 'wonderful extras', such as the early years' playgound, as well as involving parents and friends in school life through social events and educational meetings. The schools is over-subscribed with 39 applications for 30 places in a recent class.
