Background:
John Mason is one of three co-educational secondary comprehensive schools in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, England taking students from 11 to 18 years of age. The national curriculum consists of a 'core' of English, mathematics and science together with the foundation subjects of art, geography, history, a modern foreign language, music, physical education and technology. Religious education is also included and the cross-curricular themes of careers education and guidance, education for citizenship and health education are worked on it. Religious education is taught as a discrete subject throughout Years 7 to 11. Information and communication technology is a core activity at the school used to promote learning right across the curriculum. The school has extensive up to date facilities with nearly 200 internet and e-mail connected networked computers. There are four dedicated information and communication technology rooms. Music is very strong in the school. This is a happy school. The school makes a real effort to have an atmosphere of praise, celebration and thanks, at all levels.
