Background:

The school opened in 1968, when Abingdon was still a part of Berkshire. Rush Common's school badge incorporates a stag and crown indicating this connection with the Royal County. A range of activities are provided after school and during the lunch hour. These include recorder classes, guitar classes, dance and drama, table tennis, gymnastics, conservation club, ice skating, orchestra, choir, netball, football, tag rugby, swimming, cycling proficiency and a school newspaper club. Both football and netball successes have been achieved by pupils and annually there is a 17-school Primary School Netball Tournament hosted by Rush Common. Since January, a before- and after-school club has been offered to working parents and this is becoming more and more popular. Rush Common's choir has sung at local old people's homes and in the annual carol concert in St Helen's Church with choirs from all the local primary schools. Fundraising for the school has involved sponsored walks for all the children. Key Stage 1 children walk five miles and Key Stage 2 walk 10 miles. Other events organised by the fundraising community are discos for children and adults, 'Favours Auctions', 'Clothes Evening' and Christmas fairs.
