Background:

The school was built in the early 1970s to replace two village schools. It has modern buildings and spacious grounds which include a playground, quiet area, sports field, nature reserve, garden and foundation stage areas. In addition to national curriculum subjects, the school makes good use of the county music service's peripatetic teachers and sports coaches to ensure pupils have access to plenty of extra-curricular activities. All children in Key Stage 2 learn a modern foreign language (French). The school's after-school clubs include music, sport and gardening. Sporting opportunities include swimming in the school's outdoor heated pool. Children encouraged to adopt healthy lifestyles; on-site cooked meals are healthy and popular. There are close links with the local church and community and the parent teacher association is one of the major local providers of family events. Children regularly raise funds for charity; 'CHERUBS', has developed into an independent complementary daycare facility and after-school care club, which has strong links with the school. DfES achievement award (2003). Ethos: 'The school has a positive ethos in which children are encouraged to be independent and grow in confidence. They are praised consistently for hard work, effort, good manners and kindness. Respect for others and fairness are promoted as important values. Older children are encouraged to look after younger ones'.
