Background:
Charlton School was opened in February 1966 for children aged five to 11 years. The school is situated on the outskirts of the rural market town of Wantage. The school building, a single-storey construction, comprises of 10 teaching areas, a large hall, library, kitchen and several smaller rooms. Over the years the building has been altered internally to suit teaching methods and improve the environment for the children. On site the school has an outdoor heated swimming pool, used by all pupils throughout the summer months, two adventure playgrounds and a quiet area with a garden and seating. Extra-curricular activities are held every day and include drama, art, music and clubs from clarinet to judo. The school aims to provide a happy, calm yet stimulating atmosphere that promotes effective learning and successful teaching.
